Home climbing means falling — plan for the fall first. Climbing panels, boards and walls must be fixed to a sound, load-bearing structure (solid wall or a properly built frame) with the correct bolts and T-nuts torqued to spec, because a climbing hold pulls the fixing outward under body weight; an undersized fixing or a weak backing can fail. Always have a thick bouldering crash mat under the wall covering the full fall zone, keep the fall height sensible, and keep the area clear of furniture and hazards. Inspect holds, bolts and T-nuts regularly and re-tighten — holds spin loose with use. Climb within your ability, warm up, and supervise children at all times.
